Roomie-Styles!

One of the girls with whom I partied hardy in Dominican Republic is moving in on Sunday!  Ever since I bought the house, all I've wanted is one of my friends to move in...  and now someone is!  My other roomie will remain (and he is bucketloads of amazing all on his own), so it'll be the three of us + Cays + the budgies!  I'm pretty pumped at the chance to have another lady in the house!

Every couple of weeks I go on a new music hunt...  I spend a night just downloading and finding music that I love and/or music I've never heard of that I'm gonna give a shot.  Yesterday, as I lay out in the sun, reading The DaVinci Code (for the nth time), I got to reap the benefits of this music.  Like there was ever any doubt that Metric's new album is total gold, but there were a bunch of other goodies in there too!  Naturally, I have zero idea of what they're called, but let's just say there was a mental dance party going on in my head all day yesterday.

Nephew Love

I don't think I can ever get enough of this kid!  I visited this morning and I'm babysitting him tomorrow afternoon...  We're gonna try to hit up the pool since it was closed today (sad face).  I was then going to take some pictures...  and I forgot my memory card!  What an amateur move, haha.  So, we hung out and played in the sand box instead!

Novel to Make Up For It!

I'm not sure how I got so behind, so here we go!

I've been renovating like a fiend; I tore out some shelving units, removed wallpaper, filled holes, sanded and primed...  I'm gonna start priming after I interview my next potential roommate. 

Dandelions are pretty much the bane of my existence right now.  I've spent hours and hours removing them...  I wanted to get them out before I mowed the lawn, but the lawn was so uneven, I just had to do it.  Needless to say, those yellow jerks that were in bloom will not turn into seeds and create thousands more in my yard...  If only I could get my neighbours on board!

I got to go out for lunch with two old co-workers this week: one on Wednesday and one today.  LOVE.  I also got to go for dinner to one of my old family's Wednesday.  The kids didn't know I was coming, and were so happy/surprised/shocked when I pulled into the driveway.  It was pretty much the cutest thing ever.

It's Friday!  And it's my friend's dirty thirty...  And we're heading DOWNTOWN to some sketch bars to live up to the celebration.  I haven't even heard of the places we're going to, haha.  Should be amazing!  Tomorrow I have an all day photoshoot with an old co-worker turned make-up artist, then off to another old family's place for babysitting.  To top the weekend off, I'm hosting my nephew's 2nd birthday party on Sunday.  Can't wait!

The Book and the Dead

I love getting lost in a book.  I was waiting for something to cook, so I was reading a bit of a John Grisham novel.  As I ate, I continued reading it and became so engrossed, I was eventually only getting up for bathroom breaks.  I ended up finishing the entire 600+ pages.  Whoops!  Oh, well, it was a nice escape from life for a large part of the day.

Thomasena surprised me and came over to do laundry...  I've got him hooked on The Walking Dead.  I thought we'd get through maybe one or two episodes...  Yeah, I got to bed at 3 after we plowed through 5 of them, haha.

Freedom!

Black Thumb Be Gone!

One of the promises I made to myself last year was that I will get better at gardening.  Typically, I have a black thumb...  I usually can't even keep a cactus alive.  However, even with the indoor plants, I've been doing better and they're still kickin'!  My Christmas cactus (thanks, mom!) blooms like, once a month...  It's amazing.

Today I made it outside and got some yard and garden work done.  It looks so good...  I'm so excited for when more things come up.  I have some tulips just about ready to open, but my daffodils and crocuses came up a couple weeks ago.

Life Changes

Life, school and sickness have gotten in the way of me writing on here, so I thought I'd sneak a chance when I have a moment of freedom from hell aka school.

This has been one of the most professionally challenging, academic-ly demanding and physically awful weeks of my life BUT I WILL REMAIN POSITIVE.

I've learned some new things about myself this week:
1) When someone breaks my trust, forgive, but don't ever forget. 
2) I will not ever, for a second, feel bad/blamed for someone else's mistake.
3) I am so much stronger than I ever thought.  But you already knew that.  And that's why we're here, isn't it?

In a recent (late night, over the top) emotional text message conversation, I let slip certain feelings I maybe shouldn't have...  At the time, and even most of today, I wished I could take them back. Now, however, I'm grateful! There will be no confusion in the way I'm going...  and that's forward.  The past is going to stay in the past and I can't change it, I can't worry about it and I have to stop dwelling on it.

This wasn't a small victory; for me, this is monumental in my steps towards healing and moving on.

I'm usually sorry I dump my shit on you.  Today, I'm not.  I will absolutely always love you, but I will absolutely not allow myself to go on living this way.

Night Off!

I finished class at 6:50 tonight and I had NOTHING TO DO!  I mean, I have about 37 chapters and 12 articles to read and 17 videos to watch, but I got home at seven and I didn't have to leave the house again!  Do you know how long it's been since that's happened?!  I cleaned the kitchen, did some laundry, cleaned my room and organized all the sports I'm going to be playing this summer.  I'm signing up three teams of people for dodgeball, slo-pitch and ultimate frisbee.  PUMPED!  And soon to be broke...  totally worth it!

Postsecret

Postsecret came to London and when I found this out, I didn't care what day it was, where it was and what I might miss out on because I have been waiting for FOREVER for Frank Warren to make an appearance in Canada.  Absolutely so worth the wait...  The night was so emotional, amazing, inspiring and memorable.  What a lucky girl I am to have been in such a community-based environment.

Singing Birds!

Day 1

I've started my training program for my half marathon that I'm running April 29th.  Two months to the date...  I've got a lot of work to do!  I was totally not feeling it tonight either.  I got home from work, watched Grey's and passed out for an hour and a bit (whoops), then headed to piano and the grocery store.  It seemed like I'd already made up my mind about not going, but as I drove home, I thought, "FORGET THIS!  It's day one!  What are you DOING?!" so I unpacked the groceries, got my gear on and hit the roads.  Thanks to those who shoveled...  which was few and far between.  Soaker centrale!  And worth every second!!

Vacation

That has, by far, been one of the best vacations of my life!  There are so many things to be happy for that it would be impossible to list the inside jokes, the laughter, the joy of the sun, the vitamin d absorption, the dancing, the acting like idiots, the photoshoots, the a la carte mishaps, the pizzeria, the slime fruit...  The Dominican is absolutely beautiful and the people are fabulous (minus one crank of a bartender)!

I can say without a doubt that I would, in a heartbeat, run for my life back to that country.  Gorgeous.

Tonight, I made it to an hour straight of running...  That's the longest I've ever gone!  I actually have decided that I want to run in a half marathon.  There's one in April in Elmira and I think I'm going to go for it!  With Brendon's help and advice (thanks for volunteering and you don't know it yet!), I hope to set a fairly rigorous schedule to get myself on track.  I won't lie, I'm really, really excited and I'm thankful for something to look forward to at a time when I so desperately need it.

2 For 1

Oops!  I somehow forgot to post yesterday...  I think the exhaustion and monotony of full-time work and studying got to me and I was in bed, reading, by 8:30 last night.  That was totally my victory then.

TODAY was wow!  I've been so stressed about this silly history mid-term that I was letting it run my life and how I feel about being school...  to the point where I started questioning why I was even bothering!  Walking out of the mid-term tonight, I was like, THAT is why I'm in school - to rock those tests, to really understand how things work and to care enough about myself to keep learning.  I'd been guilt-eating (aka BINGE) during studying (I had the worst sweet tooth craving/give in), so I was extra inspired to run tonight.  For the second time this week, I've run for 40 minutes!  Yay, me! 

I just have one more mid-term to go and then I'm FREEEEEEEE.  Dominican in 12 days!  WOW.  I can't wait!

The Heart of BLC Lexington

What should be such a terrible day, ended up being one that was so surrounded in love, it was hard to believe it was even real.  I know I posted a blog entry not that long ago about the girls I work with, but, wow.  The love that emanated out of my staff today (two of them having today as their last day) was unbelievable.  Where I thought there would be ugly crying, non-stop inability to comfort each other or the children and/or craziness that was unable to bear, there wasn't.  There was a mutual love and respect for each other in acknowledging how much each of us has grown, how we have all benefited from being in each other's lives and how lucky the children are to have this type of positive influence in their lives.  I am truly BLESSED to work where I do and with the people I do.  I know Monday will bring a world of change, but I am so confident in our abilities to use the strength of our support system that I can't imagine exists in any other work place.

Thank you, Tracy, Lynn Anne, Christy, Vickie and Sarah - my life would not be what it is without you in it.  Though we hear this (and maybe not always genuinely), I hope you know it rings true when I tell you that I love you all from the bottom of my heart.  Thank you for a beautiful day and thank you in advance for the amazingness I know that this night will bring.

Life Update

Sorrrrrrrrry.  Totally didn't post on Friday.  I promise, it's not a habit I plan on getting into!

I had a pretty super weekend.  Did a boudoir photoshoot, got to see my JJ, blazed it up with Mindy and accomplished MUCH homework doing. 

Today was back at it, but it went by super fast.  Tomorrow's going to be a long day.  I'm working early, going to a meeting, going to a workshop on naturopathy, then dodgeball... 

If I had to pick a victory today, there are too many to choose from.  I got lots of love and cuddles today from my blue class, dodgeball was rocked (go Dirty Dodgers!) and Laura is here for the night as she's working in Toronto tomorrow.  Slumber party!

And... Shift.

Today's small victory is my ability to have an ongoing shift in attitude for the positive.  Care of the people I've encountered and what they've brought to me, amongst many books, quotations and life experiences, I tend to become more and more positive.  Given what I've seen or gone through, I could have dealt with so many things in so many different ways and I would have ended up in a far, far worse place than this.  I'm so grateful EVERY SINGLE DAY for the people who have touched my life; be it long lasting or a short encounter, and my ability to want to be happy and lead the happiest life I can.  Can many people say they accomplished that by 31?  I think I'm doing pretty darn well!

Zzz...

Unintentional napping.  I got home from work with intentions of studying, not sleeping.  I walked in the door and it hit me, so I headed up to bed for a 45 minute snooze.  Slept through my alarm.  Set it again to give myself a few minutes to wake up...  and it does not go off.  45 minutes + 2 hours.  No big deal!  I woke up ready to kick some piano ass and study the Spartan and Athenian women.  Love!

De-Clutter!

I found this site the other day (thanks, pinterest) about ways to de-clutter your life over the next 100 days.  Naturally, I've misplaced the print out AND the site...  so I'll post it later.  But I started today with my camera bag.  I'm doing a shoot on Saturday (boudoir - YES!), so I wanted it organized and ready to go.  The feeling of accomplishment over something so minute is stress relieving and lately there's been much of that to go around.

My Girls!

This is more of a great victory than a small one, but one I want to recognize today.  I am SO lucky to have the tight-knit co-workers that I do at my centre.  How many people can say that?  We have this ability to laugh off the worst days and we empower each other!

Thank you for what you do.  You girls mean so much to me!

The Very Smallest Victory

I'm not a fan of winter.  Or cold.  Or snow.  Or anything winter-related.  I'm not a skier, snowboarder, skater...  I'll maybe go tobogganing once every five years!  I'm just not a fan.  HOWEVER!  I do have a small secret...  After a snowfall and the snow is just lying there all perfect and pretty and clean, I do love a good inhalation of that fresh snow smell.  I had that today... except I inhaled it during the blizzard I'd just finished driving through!  Second victory: I'm alive to tell the tale!

Brothers

Wednesday nights are laundry nights at my house.  Not for me, not for my roommate...  but for my brother.  He makes his weekly visits to do the wash of his petit famille and we get to laugh about dumb stuff we typically wouldn't in front of anyone else.  (In the past, we've been known to rock out to Hilary Duff "Fly" and bust out.  In fact, I'm pretty sure my dad yelled at us when we came into the house still belting it out).  Anyway, our stupid laughing was over the "y u no" guy and some jokes from Mean Girls (a go to movie I forgot about and one I need to reacquaint with ASAP).  We may detest our siblings growing up, but wow, we're lucky to have each other.

Go To Movies

Whenever I'm in a movie watching mood without a certain movie in mind, I have a few select "go to"s.  I watched one tonight with Brendon.  Yay, Minority Report.  Most of them are action...  Actually, I think all of my go to movies are action related.

The Bitch is Back!

OMGGGGGGG!  I totally rocked the socks off of dodgeball tonight.  During warm up, I was extremely tentative care of doing the 100 Work Out yesterday, but once I started playing all my muscle pain subsided and I killed it.  One of the best feelings is when a player on the opposite team compliments you when you're shaking hands: "You've got a crazy arm!  Good game!"  Yeahhuhhh!  I'm all warm and fuzzy inside!

Best Way to Spend a Friday

Second day in a row of seeing some of my favourite people!  Thanks for dinner, Lisa and Tim!  I had so much fun hanging out with you guys and William (and sweet little Gillian!) this evening.  I promise we'll see each other more.  Love you!

I Avoid It Like the Plague...

Thank you, thank you, thank you for being the bigger person and picking up the phone.  If you know anything about me, I avoid confrontation like it's my job and it is, by far, my greatest weakness in that I never stand up for myself and I'm not very good at it when it happens.  After an amazing/awful weekend, I suffered the loss of a friend.  After discussing things like adults and putting it all out there so there's ZERO misinterpretation (aka texting ruins everything), we are back on the path to making amends.  I appreciate your good intentions and the offer you made and am grateful neither one of us will miss out on the other's life.  THANK YOU.

If You Can Dodge a Wrench...

Dodgeball starts tonight!  I'm super super super excited/pumped.  I haven't played since the summer, so I can't wait to get back into it.  Best part: I'm in two leagues...  I play with my old school team tonight and I play with a brand new team tomorrow night!

Dear Readers

Feeling Inspired

I got home today from the cottage and was inspired to both clean and cook (like an amazing house-wife to be), so I spent the brunt of the afternoon doing it.  It was nice to feel like I was a part of something normal and forget about how craptastic I've been feeling lately.
